Final plan and concept design decisions

What we heard:

Support for a bird hide to improve access to the wetlands but some concerns about the impacts it could have on wildlife and the impact to privacy of neighbours.

What we will do:

We will analyse risks and benefits to inform any decisions on a bird hide.

What we heard:

Strong concerns about the impacts of stormwater on the southern wetlands.

What we will do:

Continue to monitor the wetlands through our Waterwatch program and work with lead agencies to mitigate impacts to the wetlands.

What we heard:

Concern about the threats posed by feral and domestic cats to wildlife in the Reserve.

What we will do:

  • Continue to manage cats as they are found in the Reserve during our monitoring.
  • Collaborate with City of Greater Geelong to raise community awareness about domestic cats impacting wildlife.

What we heard:

Concerns that the proposed southern access track could have major impacts on the southern wetlands.

What we will do:

We will not progress this proposal as the risks appeared to outweigh the benefits.

What we heard:

The community would like signage on the road highlighting to road users that kangaroos and other wildlife live in the Reserve.

What we will do:

We will work with authorities to investigate signage.

What we heard:

Concern that the Plan did not address future impacts of climate change.

What we will do:

We will ensure climate change impacts are addressed through our Coastal Adaptation Plan.
